More meetings and congresses from across the globe in Berlin

The congress metropolis, Berlin, continues to be very popular both in Germany and abroad. This is confirmed by the latest convention statistics for the first half of 2007 issued by the Berlin Convention Office of Berlin Tourismus Marketing GmbH (BTM).

Compared with the period January to June 2006, the numbers of events and participants increased by six percent. 49,300 events with 3.8 million participants were registered and the excellent results for the first half of 2006 (46,700 events with 3.6 million participants) were clearly exceeded.

Meeting and convention travelling generated 1.99 million bed nights in Berlin between January and June 2007, an increase of six percent over the same prior year period (1st half 2006: 1.88 million). The growing globalisation of this industry is sustained in particular by the major growth in European guests. The share of participants from European countries climbed to 14 percent (1st half 2006: 13%). The share of the other continents remained steady at four percent.

Hotel Adlon and Kaufhaus KaDeWe celebrate their 100th anniversaries

Lorenz Adlon opened the hotel of the same name in 1907. 90 years later the tradition-steeped hotel returned to its original location at the Brandenburg Gate and is once more one of the leading hotels of the city.

1907 was also the year that the legendary department store, Kaufhaus des Westens (KaDeWe), opened its doors. Since then its prestigious range of exclusive goods has not only delighted Berliners but also attracted innumerable tourists from inside and outside Germany.
